Cambofarm Rabbitry

Rabbit I am always a fan. Sweet and affectionate creatures.
Still one of the most selected as a pets in the world.
Aside from their fragile nature they are very intelligent pets.
I am not sure if you agree but they are.
Cambodia as a country after the Khmer Rouge has been so isolated when it comes to animals as pets and the lack of understanding how to raise and look after the animals as pets are still need to be introduced and need more guidance from the parents.
I think if I have small children I will introduce them to animals while they are young.
I always heard a lot of anecdote that some of Khmer mothers when their children start to cry most of them will then say. “Stop the dog will come here to eat you when you don’t stop crying“which right away goes to the head of a child. That’s why a lot of these children are so afraid of the dogs or cats.
I think to educate the children about animals at their young age should be encourage.
Introducing a pet to a child will actually increase children's knowledge on how to look after the animals.
The responsibility that goes with in and rabbit is a good pet to start with.
They are very sweet temper animal.
Cambofarm rabbitry  probably the first small rabbit farm been heard in Cambodia.

The young couple Keo Malen and her husband has been looking after 200 ++ rabbits in their small farm next to their residence. Amazingly the rabbits are growing so fast.
                                                                       5 days old baby rabbit
They have beautiful breeds in addition of their local breeds.
The lion head, Mini Rex, Holland lop and angora all are beautiful breed you only need to choose which pets are suited to you according to your needs and lifestyle.
        this is Angora fluffy

          Mini Rex

                                                                             Holland lop

rare color for rabbit ( siamese color)
Angora you need to spend more time in combing and grooming them plus actually this breed if for cooler
climate Malen rabbit surely has been disclamatise.
But would be good if during hot season the rabbits should have moving electric fan to keep their fur cool and avoid dehydration.
If there’s a market of all these rabbits in Cambodia then there’s a family who can breed and supply the local market .
   local breed

baby Mini Rex

Not as for human food consumption yet but for pets.
To be honest I actually was so against eating the flesh of the rabbit I could not handle that.
But if others do that then that was their choice.
Malen told me that a lot of people actually was looking for such breed for food consumption and this breed she plans to import from New Zealand I ask her if does she likes the idea of that?
She said she will of course separate the pets breed rabbit than the rabbit for food consumption.
Still of course I am not so keen about it, but if they want to do it.
I encourage her to invite some locals’ schools to visit her farm.
I guess it would help a little bit too exposed more of her rabbits and more people encourage to adopt for pets. They actually have nice place, very nature in my opinion, they have nice farm for vegetables.

I presumed they consumed them and some of them they feed to the rabbits.
They have as well water lilies at the back, some sweet cane grass all for the consumption of the rabbits.
Plus they grow some of the grass they feed and those breed one they gave them feeds that they import from Thailand. Surely the rabbits cost money to raise them.
Although Malen maintained that her rabbit remained not vaccinated but in Cambodia even our vet don’t do vaccination for rabbits or guinea so I hope one day the more rabbits are being raise in Cambodia then might have a vet doctor for this rodents type.

For some of you who are thinking of adding or thinking to have a pets to your family.

Please consider few things before adopting.

1) Do you have time to look after the pets?

2) Listen to your heart carefully before considering adoption. Today this little fur in cute and pretty tomorrow they become bigger and your interest and priorities have changed?
What would you do dump the animals? Many cases are like this scenario.
I have some of these pets as some of the expats have changed their prior so my families come and help.

3) Can you afford to have pets; rabbits just don’t eat grass sometimes like humans we have to eat some varieties of food as we called for rabbits is treats!

4) They need grooming and taming, you need to always clean their cage houses as they urinate frequently. If you don’t want stinky house you need to retained their place cleaned.

5) Do you have other pets cats or dogs ? You need to make sure they  will not harm them.

6) Do you have a space for your new pets ?

So please think twice before adopting new pets. Animals has to be treated fairly they have their own rights.

For some of you who would like to visit Cambofarn Rabbitery. Its only 20 minutes from the city its worth a trip and its fun to get away from the city during weekend. Bring your kids , bring your buddies and friends.

The beauty of pet setting and house boarding

A hobby that slowly turn into a tweaky small business it’s a joy that we as a family  have something we can be thankful and proud, aside from we help some family and animals in needs of temporary home while their own parents are out of town of some reason they are travelling either for business or for holiday.

A pet sitting  or pet boarding in our own premises is very rewarding hobby that  turn slowly into a little tweaky business. My goal is to provide a temporary loving home to pets animals that's are NOT PUT in the CAGE  and the pets are not feeling isolated , depressed and lonely when their parents are away.
I understand the feeling and situation of each pets owners when their away as I have my own dogs and cats. When I'm away or my hubs are away for travelling we cant miss the house without calling and checking our pets if they are okay. We normally call our house 2x  aday to check on them.
We gave their pets love and care; their pets are treated like ours, Love, care, food and playful time.
We really hope that in our little way we make their stay with us enjoyable, healthy and fun and that when they go back to their own home after staying with us for couple of days, weeks , months we filled in that little gap while their own parents are away.
We arrange a video call conference over Skype with their pets and their parents if they need to see them and hear their meow or woof!
I update each of them with  daily well being of their pets and even send them photos of what their  pets is doing while they are under our care.
We are so against about animals, or dogs and cats in particular being in the cage that’s why I get this idea that with our large space we might make used of it as a pets sitter or a”” Free””  cage boarding space.

Kitty is very shy and reserved but with us she is relaxed we don’t expose her with our dogs as she is frightened with them so we do respect her boundaries.

She likes to sit always in the balcony just watch the other cats and dogs passing by and some birds that come to the trees and flowers. I personally look after her when I let her out and get some sunlight and exercise in our garden. She is not relax but I think a little of that activity would not hurt her and I hope one day she will get used to it.Her favorite thing to do is cuddling and play with my hand under the quilts.

Ash a sturdy male cat, he likes and enjoys walking around in our large green garden space but he is the boy that you cant normally trust him being by himself he needs proper watching as he tends to jump into the trees and our walls. We don’t want him to jump outside and wonder around that’s why we watch him in his every step. I think sometimes he gets mad why is he being watch like a hawk ??? But he is adorable boy.

Maybe in a long run if he keeps coming back in our furry places then he will finally don’t wonder too much of what is outside this huge wall outside the garden.

Thida is our regular guest her Mom normally entrust her with us for 2-3 weeks but Thida is Amazing she fits in and get adjusted in our house the first time she sit her foot in out gate. She manages to get along with our packs and act like one of the packs and she is like a member of our family. She is very comfortable in our furryplace.

She is nice and sweet girls so does her Mum. Thida loves to play and love attention. She does her regular routine of running so free in our front garden she don’t mind is she steps on our vegetable garden. As long as she gets he dose of exercise in the morning. She likes to get her paws dirty in the mud and get wet.
Sometimes my niece thinks Thida made that in purpose so she can get a cold shower when the weather is pretty warm outside. Well, the tricks did well with her.

We have new babies who come end of this year, Asia and Isa they are siblings, they are very sweet little ones youngest among guest but they got adjusted with us with their three weeks stay in our furry place.

Asia love to play and no fear of dog while Isa is a bit timid in a way she enjoyed the garden and love to climb trees. I can tell she is a real hunter.
Garden is their favorite activity and they normally get 2-3 hours a day with this activity.
Other than that they roam around free inside our house.

Others are more creative and they make sure they enjoy our space which is free for them to use.

I hope they like their stay with us and they have fun staying with us and one day we can also share with other who needs helps outside our home specially the stray cats that only dump in the pagoda.

Pet sitting is a rewarding small business to do , You need to have "pure "" love to animals to start taking pet sitting , as you may used to your own pets behaviour but some other pets can be challenging.
Your own judgement and your pure love to animals will be tested and the only way you last is if your truly an animal lover.

Anton first grooming at Happy Dog grooming

Anton was been so bushy since our old groomer left the country and I was so hesitant to bring Anton to other groomer. For the reason that Anton have sensitive feet as she have major injury when she fell down in the bed when she was 3 months old. She is growing up with the steel braces in her left legs.
The reason why I am very protective of her.
With all the references, I read about the happy dog so I decided to get a try and I did.
Happy Dog have a nice  clean shop with wide variety of special shampoo for pets.
They have good dry food both for cat and dogs plus other accessories for pets.
They also accept boarding for pets with very reasonable price.
Happy Dog has very friendly and very polite staff that I truly admired. I love them all.
I was impress with their talent of grooming Anton just has few comments that surely they can rectify and improved in the next visit.
For some of you would like to visit the Happy dog I have pasted their address as picture below they are very easy to find.

They have trimmed left side of Anton eyes lashes short that is not even to her right side.
Anton was limping for few days and been hiding under the bed for 3 days , I guess they must have accidentally force her legs  not intentionally but I want to make sure that next time we come back I gave them very specific reminder about Anton’s  legs.
                              This anton before grooming.
after grooming
and after grooming.
However, other than that Anton grooming was fine and good! and definitely will come back again for future groom. Their price is as well reasonable considering with the amount of time and work they have put through.
For Anton groom I paid US$ 35 which is fair in think.
